An Evolution I Can't See

Saving Energy

It seems an extremely large percentage of the energy generated by our body is used by the brain. Most of that is likely from the incessant mind activity. For the amount of thinking we do all day—and via dreams even during the night—it shouldn't come as a surprise that our brain uses up so much energy, *come to think of it!*

And this is in addition to the activity our brain is involved in for involuntary activities of running our physical body's internal organs. When we think of expending our energy, we usually think of working at something physically. But mental energy is quite significant in itself.

Where we can clearly observe this is when children lose weight during examinations, unless the children were boosted in their food intake. Luckily, it appears the amount of brain activity for maintaining our physical body is much less compared to what we spend on thinking.

Some wise men, such as Jiddu Krishnamurti, have advised people to stop thinking all day other than when absolutely needed, and observe for ourselves how much more energetic we become. The core philosophy of meditation is also similar. Those who do day long meditation consume much less food. Some even go worth our food for days est a time This is not an imagination on beliet They have actually been recorded too.

If one observes, we spend a lot of thought towards relationships, resolving current or potential ego issues of self or others. In a way, we spend a lot of our energy for the world around us—from family to society and office work colleagues. This is an opportunity for minimalism in thought

I want to try and reduce my own self-inflicted responsibilities to the world. I know that's not adequate and may divert my thoughts, not stop. But at least it is a starting point!
