I may have fallen into the trap of atheistic. But it is what it is. If I am so destined, who is there to stop. Seriously, I do not think there is a Buddha, a Krishna, a Mohammed, a Jesus Christ and all sitting out there in the skies, invisible to all. Would each of these gods be talking to each other? Would they each even know the existence of the other? The whole thing looks too irrational to me. Of course, rightly or wrongly, I can only swallow what fits into rationality. The way i understand today and now. It may change again some day.
That said, what is not a belief? Everything is a belief. Once people thought earth was flat. That was a belief. Later they were proven wrong. Now we believe we know earth is spherical. Who knows? Someday it may get proved that because of light behaving a certain way in space, the reflected light from earth seems as spherical, while actually it is not.
The distinction between material and non-material is very thin. A lot of empty space and very few molecules is space, as we see while a a smaller space between molecules is considered material. We look at each as totally different. It is true and not true. In the very essence of each, they are the same. Go even deeper, and we know that atoms and contents are all essentially high vibrating strings of energy and empty space. What we see and understand, is a belief. At the very core, none exist.
What is considered as a single soul living being as human, now we know consists much more of several other micro living beings. Do we see a human being as an individual body or a colony of unicellular organisms? So a human being is single soul or are there several souls inside? Everything is a belief.
It is a belief that 'drives' us to live today that we would continue to exist for few more years. Belief is necessary. If one is God fearing, he is inclined to live morally right than when one lives with none.
If we strongly believe that God will help us with something we desire, then forces in universe will actually come together to make it happen. A reality of Law of Attraction. Our society will work towards good deeds and live and let others live well if we believed in God.
Wise humans understood this and encouraged the concept of God. A belief! But an essential one!
PS: incidentally i myself perform a small pooja to lord Shiva every day, for I know it helps me stay right!
